Hi everyone sorry i haven't been posting recently iv been very busy trying to get a full time job to pay for my car and rent . I'm just scraping by every month with no money left i my bank sometimes weeks before i get paid. Good news, I get my bonus tomorrow!! /cheer.
Anyway so i guess you want something new and interesting to know about mages right? so what shall i say well I'm going to hit into PROFESSIONS oh yay i hear you scream, So your a mage and you don't know what professions to go with? My self i am Tailoring and enchanting i don't think anything will be better than that, i mean you make your own gear and enchant it simple!
If your looking to make money rather than spend it go for gathering profession EG: Mining and Herbalism They are by far the best ones to make a quick gold on. i would also way go tailoring no matter what maybe you wont be at the right lvl to make the gear you need but you can always make bags and sell then the Spellthread go for a bomb if you farm the mats like i do. I manages to go from 1000g to 6000g in a few days farming the eternal fires and making Sapphire Spellthread selling on AH for 300g when they first came out they sold for 700g+ so i made loads more, but still that's an amazing way to make shed loads of gold. Enchanting i would say is optional maybe for Jewel or inscription with tailor that's kinda always a nice way to go, at the moment my enchant is at 375 just so i can Disenchant the green and epics to for materials to sell of use.
So i will break it down for you.
Make money: Gathering prof EG: Mining or Herbalism maybe Skinning.
Make some use of your profs: Tailoring
Make use of your second Prof: Enchanting, Jewel or Inscription.
Till next time

I leveled my Mage as Herb/Inscription and made a good amount of gold off of the inscription though I never actually sold my herbs, just the glyphs.
If you want to play it safe, you run like every other mage in the game with Tailoring and Enchanting. If you want to make money, then Mining and Herbalism are of course the highest gold counters because there are multiple professions that rely on both of them.
Enchanting is always good for making money as long as you realize the fact that it's going to be slow leveling it up, similar to engineering and blacksmithing.
Mining is really good because so many new DK's choose Blacksmithing or Engineering as their profession and don't want to spend the time farming copper/tin/etc since they start out at level 55.
Herbalism is banking really good right now because everyone is finally starting to buy the glyphs for the dual specs that are coming up soon and with the changes in the Alchemy profession it's going to become easier for them to make end game flasks and such which will pull a higher demand for their products as well.
Mining and Herbalism together, while not optimal, are still functional on a single character. You can set up a macro to switch between the two while you travel, or you can just farm one for a time and then switch over to the other. There are also addons you can get that will track all mining nodes you find as well as all herb spawns and then give you a map of each so that you know what to search for in different places.
If you really want to get the most benefit to your gear and your stats at the end of the game though, two crafting professions is the way to go. Tailor/Enchanting gives you this, but so do all of the others. Inscription has a great shoulder enchant for themselves for instance, while Blacksmiths can socket almost every piece of their gear, Enchanters can put enchants on gear otherwise without enchants, so on.
With all that rambling aside, what I'm really trying to say here is that you can go with just about anything. Your end goal should be what determines what you want to do. If all you want is money, then gathering professions is the way to go. If you want gear, then crafting is the way to go though it may be a good idea for you to level with two gathering professions while sending your mats to a bank alt and then switching to crafting professions and using those mats you gathered for all those levels. If professions aren't of any real concern, then it's better to go with something fun like engineering just for the sake of doing it.
